Our client was charged with engaging in a conspiracy to distribute heroin and an analogue of fentanyl, carfentanyl, in violation of 21 U.S.C. § 841(a)(1), all in violation of 21 U.S.C. § 846, in Kentucky. This charge, without a prior felony drug conviction carries a five year mandatory minimum prison sentence and a ten year mandatory minimum prison sentence if the defendant has a prior felony drug conviction. Our attorney, Brandi Lewis, was able to successfully persuade the Judge to sentence the client to the minimum guideline range sentence, after presenting several redeeming qualities about the client. She accomplished this in spite of the United States arguing for the maximum guideline sentence and the Judge exclaiming that the Court usually sentences a defendant such as this at the maximum end of the guideline range. This saved the client 2.25 years in prison.
