Born in Eastern Kentucky and raised in West Virginia, Shelby Adams developed an early appreciation for the values of hard work, resilience, and community. She graduated from Wayne High School before earning her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, cum laude, from Marshall University in 2020. She then attended Northern Kentucky University’s Salmon P. Chase College of Law, where she discovered that criminal defense was more than a career—it was a calling.
Throughout law school, Shelby dedicated herself to representing individuals whose voices often go unheard. She interned with the Children’s Law Center in Covington, Kentucky, advocating for children and teenagers facing educational and housing challenges. She later joined the Hamilton County Public Defender Office in Cincinnati, where she represented indigent youth in delinquency proceedings. Through the Constitutional Litigation Clinic, she also represented incarcerated individuals in civil rights litigation against the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, gaining firsthand experience fighting government overreach and protecting constitutional rights.
Shelby’s dedication to service and advocacy earned her the prestigious Salmon P. Chase Award upon graduating in 2023. The award is presented annually to the graduating student whose volunteer legal work best reflects the spirit of Salmon P. Chase’s lifelong commitment to justice and public service.
After law school, Shelby began her career as a Municipal Trial Attorney with the Hamilton County Public Defender Office. There, she quickly gained extensive courtroom experience, serving as first-chair counsel in numerous bench and jury trials while defending individuals charged with offenses ranging from misdemeanors to serious criminal allegations. That experience taught her how prosecutors build cases, how juries evaluate evidence, and how to fight effectively for clients when everything is on the line.
Shelby later founded her own criminal defense practice, where she represented clients throughout Kentucky in a wide range of misdemeanor and felony cases. Building her own practice gave her the opportunity to provide highly personalized representation while continuing to develop a reputation for meticulous preparation, strategic advocacy, and fearless courtroom litigation.
Today, Shelby is proud to bring that experience to Baldani Law Group. By joining one of Kentucky’s premier criminal defense firms, she is able to pair the individualized attention and relentless advocacy she has built her career on with the extensive resources, collaborative experience, and statewide reach of a highly respected defense team. She remains committed to standing beside clients during some of the most difficult moments of their lives, protecting their constitutional rights, and pursuing the best possible outcome in every case.
